Lonny-Childress-1

  1. What year(s) did you work for BIGFOOT?

    • 1992-1999 and again part-time in 2005

  2. Which BIGFOOT truck did you drive?

    • 2, 3, 4, 8, 9, 10, 11, and 12.  I also got the great opportunity to crush cars in #1.  What a thrill!

  3. What was your favorite BIGFOOT?

    • #10.  That was the first rear engine, center seat truck in the fleet.  I spent most of my time in #10 and it was like an extension of me.  I knew the truck like the back of my hand.  We won a lot of races together.

  4. What was the highlight of your career?

    • We were running a series of shows on the west coast.  Dennis Anderson was running with us and he and I ran a lot of final rounds together.  I had more wins than he did against me and after winning another final round he said, “You know, you are just like Andy Brass.  You only run as hard as you need to win and you never break your truck.”  That was the biggest compliment I could ever have gotten.

  5. Is there anything you wish you could have done in your driving career?

    • Been a part of a points series and travel to Australia.

  6. Is there a particular truck in today’s fleet you wish you could drive?

    • #21!

  7. What do/don’t you miss about being a BIGFOOT driver?

    • The crew at BIGFOOT.  The competitors as most of us were great friends, until we pulled up to the starting line.  Most of all, the fans.  BIGFOOT has the best fans!

  8. Any advice you would give a rookie?

    • Always remember the fans are the most important part of your job!  Always take time out for them.  If there were no fans, you would not have the coolest job in motorsports.

  9. What do you do for a living?

  10. What have you been doing since you left BIGFOOT?

    • My brother Jason and I started a restoration shop called Gateway Classic Mustang.  We have been in business for 16 years and have had some great opportunities to build cars for a lot of really great people and even a few celebrities, such as Sammy Hagar, Michael Anthony, Chad McQueen (Steve’s son), the Darrell Gwynn Foundation and installed some suspension products on Brian Green’s 1966 Fastback.  We have appeared on 2 episodes of Overhaulin’, Celebrity Rides, 7 episodes of Hot Rod TV and R U Faster Than A Redneck.

  11. What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?

    • Playing golf, playing music, auto-crossing, track days on a road course and RC monster trucks.

  12. Anything you want to add?

    • Working at BIGFOOT taught me a lot about how to give an interview, talk to fans and sponsors and how important they are.  I learned that you do whatever it takes to make the deadline and that there is no giving up.  You have to make the race and I use that as our motto to this day.
