December 5, 2017 (Sasebo, Nagasaki, Japan) – On day 4 of Operation Appreciation Dan and Larry traveled by bus two hours to Atsugi Naval Air Facility to do a meet and greet at the club on base. After that, they went to the flight simulators where everyone had a chance to fly an F-18. The big winner of the day was Larry, who was able to “land” his F-18 on the aircraft carrier in the ocean. They ended the day with a really fun visit to see the kids at the CYA, an after-school program on base. The kids asked lots of questions, but mostly about how often they crashed, if BIGFOOT could climb buildings and how many cars it can crush at one time.

On day 6 of Operation Appreciation 2017, the Summit Racing crew arrived at Marine Corps Air Station Iwakuni and took station in the air traffic control tower. There, they observed the controllers and took in the view of the base and the ocean from 214 feet. Then they visited the firefighting unit and had a meet and greet at the tree lighting festival. There were tons of kids and families there, and even though it was a cold evening, it was a lot of fun for everyone.

This is the final day from Operation Appreciation 2017 in Japan. The Team Summit Racing drivers had a meet and greet at the cafe at U.S. Air Fleet Activities Sasebo, a Naval base in Sasebo, Nagasaki. Afterwards, we toured the USS Bonhomme Richard, an amphibious assault ship that is 844 feet long and 106 feet wide. It carries a crew of 1200 and can carry troops up to 1800.

Thank you to all who participated in the tour this year and a special thanks to all our troops, local and abroad!
