2010 Road UpdatesRICK LONG & BIGFOOT AWARDED 2010 MONSTER NATIONALS RACING CHAMPIONSHIP!
Long’s road to the championship honors was a most impressive one, as the veteran driver showed he truly is one of Team BIGFOOT’s most aggressive and versatile wheelsmen. With only a couple exceptions, the Monster Nationals series primarily takes place on the bare concrete floors of various arenas across the country, due mainly to time constraints placed on the event organizers or venue regulations against using a track made of dirt. This, of course, presents the drivers and their crew with a host of challenges that they must conquer in order to find on-track success. The Monster Nationals event format features several individual styles of monster truck competition, including the Wheelie Contest, Freestyle, and Side-by-Side drag racing over junk cars. Long and BIGFOOT showed no mercy in the side-by-side racing category! See the team’s jaw-dropping win statistics: over the course of 24 individual racing events, Long and BIGFOOT captured 16 event wins and took runner-up in a number of other final rounds. This 2-1 win ratio left Long with a total of 1,925 points at season’s end, nearly 1,000 points more than second place finisher Doug Noelke and Tailgator, who amassed 950 to his credit. With those facts on the table, it’s not hard to see why Rick Long is your 2010 Monster Nationals Racing champion! Nearly as impressive as his racing success were Long’s achievements in both the Wheelie Contest and Freestyle segments of the events, where he finished in second place in both categories. This championship is Long’s second. His first was the 2007 Monster Madness Canadian Championship while piloting BIGFOOT #11. Click picture for full-size version.
“We just had an outstanding year running the Monster Nationals tour,” said Rick Long. “Usually winning that many races means you’ve tore up a bunch of stuff, but we somehow lucked out and had it pretty easy this year,” he explained. He went on to add that “Our guys in the shop really took care of me this year, and whatever it is we did to the truck’s setup sure worked, because there wasn’t a truck out For the majority of the 2010 season Long competed as the only representative of Team BIGFOOT on the tour, the only exception being the 3-day Madison, WI event, where he was joined by teammate Chris Ludwig in Snake Bite (BIGFOOT #11). Ludwig would prove that Team BIGFOOT’s mastery of indoor non-dirt racing wasn’t strictly limited to just one truck, or one driver - Chris took second place honors in racing during the Saturday night event and captured his first ever indoor national event win on Sunday! With the 2010 Monster Nationals tour in the books, Rick Long and company will shift their focus to a number of non-point events and a handful of special appearances for BIGFOOT’s two primary sponsors - Firestone tires and Summit Racing Equipment. One can certainly bet that by the time the 2011 Monster Nationals season kicks off in January, Rick Long and BIGFOOT will be ready to defend their title! “We’re going to approach the 2011 season just like we did the 2010 season, with two goals in mind: win races, and make our fans happy,” said Long. “Thankfully, those two go hand in hand.” Be sure to check out live events schedule to see when and where Team BIGFOOT will be your area! BIGFOOT Open House 2010July 7, 2010 - With everything going on this month, which includes the MLB BIGFOOT truck and our upcoming Team Photo in Bloomsburg, we didn’t have much time to talk about our open house! We held our 4th Annual BIGFOOT Open House on June 26, 2010. The stars of the day were, of course, Dan Runte driving RetroFOOT #16 and Amber Walker driving Ms. BIGFOOT #11! Both trucks did car crushes at 2 different times during the day, entertaining the big crowds. Click picture for full-size version. We would like to thank all of you who showed up for staying with us the whole day, as temperatures were hovering near 100 degrees! Both Dan and Amber did a great job doing exhibition car crushes to a very vocal crowd, and we all enjoyed seeing and talking to all of our fans, which even included a few from as far away as Maine and California!
In-between the car crushing action, we were entertained by former employee and friend, Doug Welker, and his band, The Buried Clocks. You guys are awesome! Hopefully, all you BIGFOOT fans got a chance to catch up and talk to Bob Chandler, Jim Kramer, Dan Runte, Amber Walker, Larry Swim, and even the original Ms.BIGFOOT, Marilyn Chandler. It was a great day, and we would like to thank the following: Bommarito Automotive Group Also, we want to give a big thanks to all of the BIGFOOT employees, spouses, and kids for all of their help; we could not have done it without you! Also, we have a number of new items in our Online Store, be sure to check them out: FIRESTONE’S “ULTIMATE BIGFOOT® DISPLAY” A “BIG” SUCCESS!
In late 2009, Firestone, along with Team BIGFOOT, hosted a nation-wide contest open to Firestone tire retailers. The winner of the contest was to receive the “Ultimate BIGFOOT Display”, a two-day extravaganza worth over $20,000 featuring BIGFOOT #1, The Original Monster Truck®; BIGFOOT #5, the world’s largest pickup truck; and BIGFOOT #15, one of Team BIGFOOT’s most successful race trucks ever. And if all of that awesome equipment wasn’t enough, the originator himself, BIGFOOT owner and creator Bob Chandler would be on-hand for the party along with drivers Jim Kramer and Rick Long. When the contest ended and a winner was drawn, the Firestone and BIGFOOT folks admittedly had to consult the map to see exactly where Madill, OK (population 3,400) was. Winner Motor Sales of Madill (and its sister store in Tishomingo, OK) is an important business to the surrounding area! They stock just about anything a farmer, rancher, trailer-towing customer, or a shade tree mechanic would need to keep his or her equipment running right…and that most definitely includes Firestone tires. In fact, Jonathan Northcutt, Owner and General Manager, said it best himself: “When you’ve been around as long as Motor Sales has, it isn’t because you sell people stuff that breaks or wears out easy. Our reputation rides on the strength of the products we sell. And that’s why we carry Firestone tires. My customers can’t afford to have their tires let them down, and I can’t afford to let them down.” It’s that kind of devotion to customer service that has kept Motor Sales running strong since its inception in 1963; and in that time, it has remained an independently-owned family business, with third-generation Jonathan at the helm. Click picture for full-size version. When it was announced that Motor Sales of Madill had won the contest, Jonathan was just about speechless. He did, however, manage to state that “This is just way too cool. I never seem to win anything, so if I’m gonna win, I’m glad I won BIG! Literally!” On May 26th, the BIGFOOT fleet left St. Louis, MO, making the 11 hour drive Madill, allowing ample time to setup the mass of equipment that would make up the Ultimate BIGFOOT Display. As one could imagine, the sight of seeing three BIGFOOT tractor-trailer transports and the BIGFOOT Merchandise rig caught the attention of many passing motorists. When the convoy finally arrived in Madill, people in the town seemed to freeze momentarily and drop what they were doing to watch the procession of over-sized vehicles. The team made a “BIG” entrance. After spending all of the 27th setting the trucks up (including the 4 hour process of setting BIGFOOT #5 onto its 10ft tall Firestone tires), Team BIGFOOT and the staff of Motor Sales were confident that the town would be suitably impressed when the event kicked off the following day. And as it turns out, they were right! BIGFOOT #5, with its enormous Firestone tires (which are nearly 60 years old…how’s THAT for long-lasting?) proved to be a major attraction. In fact, when parked at the store front of Motor Sales, it was nearly as tall as the store itself! BIGFOOT #1 was of course a hit with fans of all ages, especially the older crowd that had grown up watching the original BIGFOOT trucks in the late 1970’s and early 1980’s. For this event, BIGFOOT #1 sat atop 48” tall Firestone tires, a nod to its early days and a welcome taste of nostalgia considering the truck (and the entire BIGFOOT operation) are celebrating their 35th year of operation in 2010. BIGFOOT #15 and its driver Rick Long, probably had the most fun, though, as they would perform a thrilling car-crush exhibition at 12:30pm each day for the throngs of fans who had come to get a glimpse of the action. When the dust had settled each day, BIGFOOT #15’s 66” tall Firestone tires remained inflated and fully intact, although the same couldn’t be said for the hapless autos that got crushed. The trucks weren’t the only attraction in Madill, however. Bob Chandler, Jim Kramer, and Rick Long all spent a great deal of time with the fans answering questions and signing autographs. “Although I don’t travel on the road near as much as I used to, I still very much enjoy getting out and seeing our great fans,” said BIGFOOT creator Bob Chandler. “This was a very rewarding event for our team to participate in; it’s always great when you can give back to your fans. There’s no way we could have made this event such a success without the help of the great people at Firestone.” Motor Sales’ Jonathan Northcutt echoed Bob’s sentiments: “I am so thankful for the opportunity Firestone and Team BIGFOOT gave us, and I’m just thrilled with how it all worked out. We love giving back to our community, and we definitely did it in a BIG way this time!” For more information on Firestone, The Official Tire For BIGFOOT, and their lineup of legendary tires, visit www.firestone.com. TEAM BIGFOOT CRUSHES THROUGH LIMA, PICKS UP ANOTHER WIN
Dan Runte and his RetroFoot machine were undoubtedly one of the biggest hits with the fans over the course of the weekend, as the nostalgic look of the ‘74/79 F-250 body and traditional BIGFOOT Blue paint job combined with Dan’s smooth driving style made for a thrilling combination. For Lima, the RetroFoot machine was equipped with the team’s latest and most powerful engine setup, which, not surprisingly, resulted in a few twisted up parts due to the combination of raw power and excessive traction. Runte’s truck would succumb to a broken rear third member during the first event on Saturday, followed by a broken driveshaft during the Saturday evening event. The team thrashed hard, however, and would have RetroFoot in winning form for the final event on Sunday. “We switched up our tire strategy a bit, and I adjusted my driving some for Sunday,” explained Runte. “We’d been making some very fast passes all weekend, but it seemed like those mechanical gremlins were hitting us at the worst time. Thankfully we got it sorted out and picked up our third win of the Jamboree season.” Will that help Runte keep up his momentum heading into the next Jamboree, July’s Bloomsburg, PA event? “Absolutely. Anytime you can leave an event on a high note, it is a good thing. We love Bloomsburg, and thankfully Bloomsburg seems to like us, so we are definitely looking forward to storming in there and picking up a few more wins!” Click picture for full-size version.Runte’s teammate Amber Walker continued to impress in her inaugural season behind the wheel of
Ms BIGFOOT. Clearly feeling more comfortable, Walker reached the semi-finals in three of the four sessions of monster truck racing, an impressive feat considering the field was stacked with veteran drivers, many with championships to their name! In addition to her superb racing performance, Amber also “Lima was a blast!” said an enthusiastic Amber Walker. “I had so much fun racing on the long outdoor course, and of course it was great to go as far into the rounds as we did each time. I think my favorite part was the fans though. I was really impressed with how popular the new Ms BIGFOOT posters were. We even colored people’s hair with some pink stripes to match the truck and I! I can’t wait for Bloomsburg!” With another successful Jamboree in the books, Team BIGFOOT now focuses on a number of smaller races and special events for Firestone tires and Summit Racing Equipment, before heading to Pennsylvania for the next Jamboree. Drag racing fans and competitors of all ages and walks of life got a chance to see, touch, and get their picture taken with a true piece of history, as BIGFOOT #1 was available to the public all weekend, courtesy of Summit Racing Equipment, which sponsors the fleet of competition monster trucks operated by Team BIGFOOT. Joining Bob Chandler for the weekend was long-time friend and legendary BIGFOOT driver Jim Kramer and crew member Kyle Doyle. The weekend of racing action began early for the BIGFOOT crew, as they participated in a drag racing experience Thursday night that pitted various members of the Summit Racing Equipment staff and guests against each other in head-to-head racing down the strip. Using brand-new Ford Tauruses and Fusions, BIGFOOT driver Jim Kramer would reach the finals (after taking out Chandler in Round 1 and Doyle in Round 2) of eliminations, where he would narrowly lose to a fellow member of the Summit Racing Equipment family. Needless to say, it was a fun experience for everyone involved! Much to the delight of the thousands of fans who packed into the stands for the Saturday qualifying sessions, Bob Chandler took BIGFOOT #1 for a stroll down the return road in front of the grandstands after being interviewed on the starting line by NHRA trackside announcer Alan Rheinhart. With Jim Kramer as his passenger, Chandler gave everyone a taste of nostalgia by manipulating the truck’s rear steering, allowing the truck to strut its stuff as it first did so many years ago. Click picture for full-size version.Sunday’s driver introductions and opening ceremonies would see Bob introduced on-stage and interviewed by NHRA track announcer Bob Frey, after which Bob climbed aboard BIGFOOT #1, this time in the bed, to take in the accolades and applause of the crowd as Kyle navigated the truck down the return road and back to the Summit Racing Equipment exhibit.
“What an honor it was to be a part of all of this,” said Chandler. “I still can’t believe how much people love BIGFOOT #1. In some ways, to me, it’s just an old truck. But it will always be my old truck. It’s my baby.” Team BIGFOOT and Bob Chandler would like to thank Summit Racing Equipment, the NHRA, all of the competitors, and of course all of the great Georgia fans for their warm hospitality and allowing us all to be a part of such a great event. May 4, 2010 - (St. Louis, MO) Team BIGFOOT roared into the Ozark Empire Fairgrounds in Springfield, MO this past weekend for the kick-off event of the 2010 4-Wheel Jamboree Nationals series. It would prove to be a huge weekend for the team on a number of levels, not the least of which was the competition debut of the all-new “MS BIGFOOT” and the “RetroFoot” BIGFOOT body, which found itself in victory lane not once but twice over the course of the weekend! Dan Runte, driver of BIGFOOT #16, swapped out his 2008 F-250 fiberglass body in exchange for some retro styling just in time for Springfield. As part of the team’s 35th anniversary celebration, BIGFOOT #16 was re-dressed in a fiberglass and steel body that mimics BIGFOOT #1, The Original Monster Truck®. This new body captures the beautiful lines and classic all-blue appearance of BIGFOOT #1, which is a 1974 F-250 with a 1979 front-end. It should be noted that Runte and “RetroFoot” were not in Springfield simply to look good sitting still; In fact, it was quite the opposite. Runte would pilot his machine to the final round of eliminations in each of the three sessions of Monster Truck Thunder Drags racing, winning two of them and earning himself the #1 spot in points at the end of the weekend. He would back up this dominant performance in racing with solid freestyle performances all weekend long, punctuated with his trademark slap wheelies and big air. Click picture for large version:Amber Walker made her driving debut for Team BIGFOOT in Springfield behind the wheel of the team’s other newest creation, “MS BIGFOOT”. The beautiful powder blue body, which is a nod to the team’s original Ms. BIGFOOT from the mid 1980’s, sat atop the BIGFOOT #11 chassis for the event. This chassis (which has a number of championships to its name), along with Amber’s aggressive driving style and quick learning curve would prove to be a hot combination. Walker wasted no time going rounds in the monster truck racing portion of the events, taking down well-known trucks and veteran drivers like Jim Kohler and Avenger. And while Kohler is often known as “Mr. Excitement” to the fans, Amber may very well soon become “Ms. Excitement” as her freestyle maneuvers captured the crowd’s attention early on! During the first freestyle session of the weekend on Saturday, Walker bounced Ms. BIGFOOT up into a tailgate-dragging wheelie, only to be tripped up by another obstacle, which found her fighting to save the truck as it crashed to the ground. Thankfully, Amber was just fine and the truck only suffered damage to its fiberglass body. Thanks to Jerry Dalton, John Peterson, and Dan Runte, Amber and MS BIGFOOT would return to the track for the 2nd round of racing, where she, again, thrilled the crowd with her racing AND her freestyle! Click picture for large version:The fan response to both of the new BIGFOOT trucks was overwhelming, evidence of that fact being the outrageously long lines for both Dan and Amber’s signatures during the post-race autograph sessions. Die-hard BIGFOOT fans could be seen inspecting both trucks in awe, no doubt moved to see the team pay homage to their rich history. As Dan Runte put it “We aren’t just paying tribute to our history this year, we are making it too.”

Swim entered the final event of the 2010 CFP, held at the ISU Holt Arena in Pocatello, ID, with a strong but not invincible points lead. Despite a successful winter season chock full of wins in just about every category imaginable, Swim would have to fight to the bitter end in Pocatello to emerge victorious, both on the event level and the coveted championship level. After a crowd-pleasing run in the wheelie contest, Swim’s night would take a frustrating turn as he was narrowly upset in the first round of racing by Devin Jones in Barbarian. Due to the fact that the event was a double-elimination format, each of the eight trucks in the field would return in round 2 to face different opponents. Swim was not about to let the championship slip through his fingers, and promptly defeated the ever-capable Mike Hawkins in Equalizer in the second round of competition. Swim would have to lean on his BIGFOOT machine hard in the semi-finals to pull out a win, as he once again squared off against Devin Jones in Barbarian. The outcome would not be the same as it had been earlier in the night, as Swim would handily defeat Jones and move on to the finals. Serving as his opponent in the finals would be none other than Darren Migues and Bounty Hunter. As ruthless of an opponent as any, Migues had been enjoying a great deal of success on the Chicago-style race track. Migues’ and his machine would not be enough to overcome the determination of Swim and his legendary BIGFOOT truck however, as Swim would soar across the finish line first, earning his second racing win in Pocatello in as many years. Swim and the BIGFOOT Bad Boy would not have much time to catch their breath before it was time to hit the track again for monster truck freestyle. Early into his run, which was already punctuated by blistering momentum and big air, the 572ci powerplant resting between the frame rails of Swim’s BIGFOOT machine suffered a catastrophic timing belt failure, cutting off power to the hopeful champion far earlier than he had intended. As freestyle came to a close, the CFP officials tallied up the points earnings for all of the trucks, while the teams, drivers, and fans sat rather impatiently nearby. It was finally announced that Swim had amassed enough points to remain atop the heap, making him the CFP champion once again! “I’m pretty much out of words at this point,” said an exuberant Swim immediately following the championship ceremony held on-track. “It has been such a long season to get to this point, and there was no way I was going to let this one get away from me. I can’t say enough for John and Bryan and everyone back at the shop that have kept me running all winter long, [BIGFOOT owner/creator] Bob Chandler and his whole family for giving me the chance to drive the best trucks around, and of course my wife Susan for sticking with me through all the long trips and late nights away from home. This is just awesome!” Thanks to Sky Hartley, one time BIGFOOT driver, for helping to crew for Larry during this event. Your help is much appreciated. For more information on Larry Swim and the entire BIGFOOT team, visit the Team BIGFOOT page. To see where BIGFOOT will be appearing, CLICK HERE. TEAM BIGFOOT® SWEEPS RACING, THRILLS FANS IN MADISONFebruary 3, 2010 - (Madison, WI) The Monster Nationals series returned to the Alliant Energy Center in Madison, WI this past weekend for three days of intense monster truck racing and freestyle action. Team BIGFOOT made the trek up to Wisconsin loaded for bear, with not one but TWO trucks competing for the win. Click picture for large version:Rick Long in the E3 Spark Plugs BIGFOOT #15 would be joined by teammate Chris Ludwig in Snake Bite® (BIGFOOT #11), filling in for regular driver Jerry Dalton. Long, who has been on a tear this season on the Monster Nationals tour, extended his points lead by dominating the side-by-side racing portion of both Friday and Saturday nights’ events. Long would defeat Jim Burns in Mechanical Mischief in Friday night’s finals, soaring to victory by a wide margin. He would then go on to repeat that feat in Saturday night’s finals, this time defeating Bobby Holman in the Lucas Oil Stabilizer in a thrilling side-by-side race that had the fans on their feet. Racing would not be Long’s only focus over the course of the weekend however. Sunday afternoon’s event would see Long put on a big-air clinic mixed with impressive power and slap wheelies en route to a triumphant freestyle win.
The talk of the weekend wouldn’t just be about Rick Long in BIGFOOT however, as teammate Chris Ludwig in Snake Bite (BIGFOOT #11) would take a bite out of the competition as well. Ludwig, who normally serves as head technician for BIGFOOT’s Midwest Four Wheel Drive Center, stepped into the role of back-up driver for the Madison event as BIGFOOT #11’s normal driver Jerry Dalton was off for the weekend. Ludwig, who has performed in a number of BIGFOOT trucks over the past few years, took little time to knock the rust off and by the end of the weekend found himself sitting in victory lane. With his wife and father watching, Ludwig conquered teammate Rick Long in BIGFOOT in the semi-finals of racing and Bobby Holman in the Lucas Oil Stabilizer in the finals, much to the delight of the Madison crowd. An enthusiastic and humble Ludwig made a victory lap and parked atop the cars, accepting the crowd’s warm accolades and showing the world that Snake Bite wasn’t going home empty-handed from Madison.
The Monster Nationals tour continues this weekend at the Jack Breslin Center in East Lansing, MI (CLICK HERE for BIGFOOT's event schedule). Rick Long in BIGFOOT #15 will be on-hand to defend his lead in the points against a stacked field of competitors. On-Track to Success: Team BIGFOOT has already racked up some great on-track success during the month of January! All five BIGFOOT race trucks have been competing nationwide, from New Jersey to California! Rick Long in the E3 Spark Plugs BIGFOOT #15 has been on a tear in the Monster Nationals series, picking up numerous race wins. Larry Swim in the all-new Bad Boy II BIGFOOT #14 has been beating up the competition on the Checkered Flag Productions tour, as he tries to defend his 2009 championship. Dan Runte in the Summit Racing Equipment BIGFOOT #16 has been enjoying great success in the western US for most of January, as he picked up 11 wins in 12 events! Jerry Dalton has been making his mark on the Bar’s Leaks Monster Nation tour with the all-new Firestone BIGFOOT #11, throwing down some stellar freestyle performances that have helped him climb into the top-5 in points. Last, but certainly not least, Rodney Tweedy in the “Hot Rod BIGFOOT #10” spent his first weekend on the road tearing up the competition in Oklahoma City, but, near the end of the weekend Tweedy suffered through a hard rollover in the truck AND a blown motor! Thankfully, Tweedy’s machine was scheduled off for two weeks of maintenance, and in that time the BIGFOOT shop crew literally cut the truck in half and rebuilt the entire rear of the chassis AND installed a new motor! Now THAT is teamwork!
